Dear Friend:

The story of the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood is similar to the Greek experience
inAmerica. It is a story of struggle and success and one in which we can alltake
pride. It is a story of challenge and sacrifice and of steady progress in laying the
foundation required to make avision a reality.

It began in 1903, and its mission has
been to support and promote Hellenism and administer philanthropic endeavors for
medical aid,scholarships, disaster relief, and other charitable causes.

The story of the Queens College Center for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies is
similar to the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood. It began in 1974, and its mission has been
tosupport and promote teaching and research regarding Byzantine and
Neo-Hellenicsubjects and relate this to the needs and interests of the Greek
American communityand beyond. It is the only BA program in Byzantineand Modern
Greek Studies in the U.S., and has enabled over 15,000 studentsto pass through the
Center’s program. Today, over 1,000 students of Greekancestry attend Queens College,
a number unknown to any university outside ofGreece. In this way, they not
onlycontribute to the preservation of Greek language and identity but have createda
new generation of philhellenes as well.

Today, the program is confronted with a gravefinancial challenge that is common to
academia and is exacerbated by the globaleconomic crisis. Immediate action is needed
to save the program. Nonetheless, we have a moral obligation to secure the futureof
this Hellenic Center. For this purpose we are organizing the event“Musical Journey”
on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 8:00pm at Pandiki Hall. (See Attached Flyer)

We would like to extend a cordial invitation to you, your friends and family to
attend this event and we are lookingforward to your support to ensure the Center’s
survival so it can continue toserve the noble ideas of Hellenism for the next 100
years.
